Jimena de la Frontera is a city in the Province of Cadiz in the spanish region Andalusia. The white village ("Pueblo Blanco") is on the edge of the "Parque Natural de Los Alcornocales" (Alcornocales = cork oaks).

background

The city consists of the following parts: Jimena de la Frontera (with the castle Castillo de Jimena), Los Angeles (with the train station Estación de Jimena), San Pablo de Buceite and San Martín del Tesorillo. The two rivers Hozgarganta and Guadiaro flow through the place.

Jamena is typical for the time of the Reconquista with the castle on the mountain and the white, very similar houses on the slope. The term "de la Frontera" also refers to the border between Moors and reconquering Catholic kings.

getting there

By plane

The next airport is open Gibraltar, which is not served from Germany. The nearest airport with German airlines is in Jerez (100 km, 1: 30h on country roads), also is the Malaga airport (135km, 1: 40h, motorway, chargeable) easy to reach.

Directions

By train

Jemina is up to the Renfe Railway line (Media distancia) from Algeciras (about 40 minutes away) Ronda (1h) and Bobadilla (1: 30h), the train station is in the Los Ángeles district (Estación de Jimena).

In the street

The A-369 leads from San Roque about Jamena after Gaucín and Ronda. Shortly after the village, the C-3331 turns to the west, you can follow this path Arcos de la Frontera or Jerez de la Frontera drive.

From Málaga you can drive on the A7 (toll) to just before San Roque and then take the A-2100, it leads to the A-369 (a total of around 150km, 2h). Or you can take earlier runs and enjoy the ride through the mountainous landscape, e.g. via Gaucin or even Ronda. The distances are only slightly in kilometers, but the driving time is significantly longer because the roads are not as well developed (like the Autovia).

Bus routes run daily to Algeciras, Ronda and La Línea de la Concepción.

Buildings

Canal for the Fábricas de Artillería
  • Ruins of the former Royal Artillery Factory, the Reales Fábricas de Artillería de Carlos III, 1777 by Carlos III. which produced cannonballs at the time of the siege of Gibraltar. The system of water-supplying canals on the banks of the Guadiaro River is particularly interesting. In 1786 the factory had to be shut down again due to the unstable water level in the river. There was an iron mine in nearby San Pablo de Buceite, and the forests were used to supply wood (coal).
