The Malaga Airport - Costa del Sol(Spanish: Aeropuerto de Málaga-Costa del Sol) is an international airport in the Málaga Province, about 10 km southwest of downtown Málaga and 5 km northeast of Torremolinos. It offers very good travel options to the Costa del Sol and other regions of Andalusia.

Since the maximum number of passengers was exceeded in the years around 2000, the airport is being expanded to accommodate up to 30 million passengers a year. The third terminal went into operation in 2010, and the second runway opened in the summer of 2012. In 2017, 18 million passengers passed through.
getting there
By train
The suburban train line C-1 connects the airport with the city center of Málaga and the towns to the south-west Torremolinos, Benalmadena to Fuengirola, accessible at the underground train station outside Terminal T3. Trains run every 20 minutes from around 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Tickets can be bought from machines in the station that accept cash and credit cards. In 2018, a trip to Torremolinos or Malaga costs € 1.80, to Fuengirola € 2.70.
By bus
There are bus connections (EMT express bus 75 or regional bus MA-135) to the 1 Bus station in Malaga (Avenida de Manuel Agustin Heredia) - Direction puerto. From there, there are also many direct buses, including to Nerja. To Marbella there is a direct connection; sometimes every hour, approx. 45 minutes driving time. The buses for the transfer of package guests to the hotels leave from an underground bus station, and an elevator goes down to the bus station.
The transport company AS A offers direct bus connections between Málaga Airport and various cities in Andalusia: Granada (travel time approx. 2:15 hours), Almería (3 hours), Seville (3:15), Córdoba (3:25) and Jaen (5 : 15).

Airlines and Destinations
Malaga is a classic summer destination. In the winter flight schedule, many connections are thinned out or not offered at all. The flight time from Frankfurt (FRA) is around three hours. Only terminals 2 and 3 are used. One seamlessly merges into the other. From the latter, all flights to non-Schengen countries depart. Terminal 1 has been closed since 2010, but should be reactivated if the passenger volume justifies it.
