Geographical notes

It borders the old quarter of Bur Dubai on Sheikh Rashid Road and extends from the dry docks of Port Raschid west of the mouth of the Creek on the Persian Gulf coast to the Dubai Marina and adjacent Jebel Ali. It is located south of 2nd Street or D 73 Road, formerly Al Dhiyafa Road.

How to orient yourself

There 1 Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road formerly Trade Center Road, it is the largest and most famous road in Dubai. The expressway has evolved in recent years to become the main traffic artery of the deserted city and connects almost all parts of modern Dubai. It runs parallel to the coast from the World Trade Center roundabout to the Abu Dhabi emirate border in the area of Jebel Ali. The use of the road is partially tolled. This road has six lanes at the widest point in each direction, plus parallel side streets. It is almost exclusively for private motorized vehicles. For pedestrians there are some bridges and underpasses to cross the street.

Neighborhoods

Dubai Marina
  • 1 Dubai Marina —The Dubai Marina will be the famous nightlife area in the future. This multi-billion dollar development is designed for tourists and water sports. The bars and cafes along the marina are popular gathering spots for families and young people. Most restaurants offer shisha and oriental food, but food chains are moving in fast too. The "Marina Walk" along the yachts is especially popular on Fridays and Saturdays. Yacht agencies offer services for exploring the coastal region and the Palm Islands.
Palm Islands
  • 2 Palm Islands - The Palm Islands are the best symbols of the construction boom in Dubai. The "older" Palm called Palm Jumeirah is completed and houses the gigantic Atlantis Hotel on its top. Numerous marinas, hotels and condominiums are located along the palm leaves. The development of the other two palm trees will depend on the financial situation of the construction sector, but one day Dubai will have its three largest man-made islands in the world on its coast.
  • 3 Al Satwa - A small community that looks a lot like a city, its streets are lined with fabric shops, especially in front of the Satwa Mosque which ends at the opposite of the Satwa clinic. Most people flock to Satwa for their fabrics, sometimes you might grab offers and discounts, but if you don't try to haggle the price. Satwa is not just a hub for textile shops; some tailor shops on the corners can also be found if you want a suit made as soon as possible after purchasing the raw materials. Raw silk may also be available in some stores. Due to the row of fabric shops, it could be the version of Little India and Little Manila in Dubai, as many Indians reside in this district, as do Filipinos.

What see

Burj al-Arab
  • 1 Burj al-Arab (Tower of the Arabs), 97143017777. Ecb copyright.svgOvernight stays over USD 1,800 per night, exclusive of taxes / fees.. This huge sail-shaped hotel completed in 1999 is a symbol of Dubai and its rise to the world. The world's first self-proclaimed seven-star hotel (actually a five-star deluxe hotel) was Dubai's first icon and still stands out on the skyline from its location on an artificial island 280m from the beach. The entrance to the hotel is reserved for guests and those with reservations in the restaurant. An elegant but not strictly enforced casual dress code applies. Book the restaurant in advance. Burj Khalifa
  • 2 Burj Khalifa (Khalifa Tower), 1 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard (Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall red line metro stop). Ecb copyright.svgTickets cost 125 dirhams for a timed entry ticket, or 400 dirhams if you don't want to wait. Tickets can sell out several days in advance and it is advisable to book them online before your visit. For 500 dirhams you can book a 'sky' ticket, which includes a trip to level 148 of the building for 30 minutes, sweets and drinks, before returning to level 125 (which is empty and exclusive). It also includes a short tour of the private areas of the building. If you choose the 'sunrise breakfast' option for 140 dirhams you can visit floor 124 at 05:30 and later, floor 125 which opens at 08:30 - this is a great way to avoid the queues and see the city. At 828 m and 160 floors this is the tallest structure in the world, over 300 m higher than the previous contender a Taipei. The observation deck on the 124th floor is the second tallest in the world after it Shanghai World Financial Center. Dominating the Dubai skyline, the tower houses a hotel and a Las Vegas-inspired fountain system. The visitor entrance is located on the basement level of the Dubai Mall. Although the tour is called At the Top, it really isn't because it reaches 452m, just over half the tower itself. Take comfort in the fact that most of the rest of the tower is made up of service areas and the view down below looks suitably ant-like. Burj Khalifa on Wikipedia Burj Khalifa (Q12495) on Wikidata
