The largest airport in the region is in Santa Barbara. The next destinations for direct intercontinental flights are San Francisco (160 km north of Monterey) and los Angeles (160 km east of Santa Barbara).

The Amtrak railroad lines run along California's central coast Coast Starlight (Seattle – Portland – Los Angeles; stops in Salinas, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara) and Pacific Surfliner (San Luis Obispo-Santa Barbara-Los Angeles-San Diego; seven stops on the Central Coast).

GreyhoundLong-distance buses on the Los Angeles – San Jose route travel through the Central Coast region and stop, among other things. in Santa Barbara and Salinas.

The most important road connection is the U.S. Route 101, which runs from Olympia (Washington) along the Pacific coast through Eureka and San Francisco to Los Angeles.
