- Palangka Raya - City founded in 1957 with the intention of making it the capital of Indonesia to replace Jakarta and following the example of Brasilia. The project, abandoned by Sukarno, became topical again in 2017, following the geological disaster that afflicted Jakarta. The city is sinking at a rate of 5-25 cm per year and is forecast to be submerged by water by 2030.

- 1 Sabangau National Park (Taman Nasional Sebangau) - Spread over a stretch of swampy plain, the park was established in 1995 after losing 85% of the forests that covered it. Since that date, attempts have been made to reintegrate the original forest mantle and today the park is home to a large number of orangutangs (about 6,500 specimens).
- 2 Tanjung Puting National Park (Taman Nasional Tanjung Puting) - A renowned ecotourism destination, Tanjung Puting Park is the ideal place to observe orangutangs.
