Karlovy Vary (Baden) is a community in Northern Black Forest, it lies between Karlsruhe, Ettlingen and Pforzheim on the Alb-Pfinz-Plateau.

The municipality of Karlsbad was created in 1971 through the merger of the formerly independent municipalities 1 Auerbach, 2 Ittersbach, 3 Langensteinbach, 4 Mutschelbach and 5 Spielberg. The largest district is Langensteinbach, here is also the administrative center. The name of the community is reminiscent of Margrave Charles III Wilhelm (Baden-Durlach), the founder of the city of Karlsruhe, who built a bath in Langensteinbach near the Barbara chapel in 1719.

  • 4 The Barbara Chapel was built in the 15th century. It served as a pilgrimage chapel until the Thirty Years War, after which it fell into disrepair. In the meantime it has been partially restored, the tower serves as a lookout tower.
