There is a 5-minute connection to the 152 bus, which takes you to Riede in 10 minutes. Here you get off the bus at the "Riede Raiffeisenbank" stop, which is in the center of the village (03-2010).

You finally climb up to the Klauskopf via the little street "Am Steinweg" (see section mobility).

In order to get a connection to Riede, you have to enter "Riede Raiffeisenbank, Bad Emstal" as the destination name in the DB timetable information.

In the street

  • from Kassel: Drive on the B 520 to Schauenburg-Breitenbach. At the exit of Breitenbach turn left onto the country road towards Bad Emstal. After Bad Emstal near Merxhausen take the B 450 towards Fritzlar. Leave the B 450 after about 3 km at Riede.
In the village (Riede) follow the blue signs to the nature park area. The little road (the stone path) turns into a gravel path in the area of the castle. Shortly above the castle you will find the small parking lot on the left. Distance from Kassel city center: approx. 30 km

mobility

The Klauskopf is only accessible on foot or by bike. The gravel road to the tower is Suitable for pushchairs.

From the nature park at the castle in Riede you walk about 1.2 - 1.5 km to the tower. The nature park can be reached from the town center via the little street "Am Steinweg".

First it goes steadily uphill from the nature park place on a spacious gravel forest road to the mountain saddle. Here at the wayside cross you will find a refuge where you can rest. By the way, the refuge is called "Straw Temple", although the wooden hut does not have a thatched roof.

If you want, you can make a short detour to an obelisk from the refuge (sign in the left area of the crossroads).

To the right of the refuge there is a wooden sign in the bushes on the way to the observation tower (800 m).

A smaller, partly winding road leads to the Klauskopfturm from here.

This path can also be ridden with a mountain-suitable touring bike (with tread tires) or, of course, with an MTB. On the descent, however, it is essential to drive slowly and carefully, as the path is sometimes confusing! Of course, appropriate consideration must be given to pedestrians (ring the bell early, downhill overtaking hikers with as wide a curve as possible and only at moderate speed).

Cast iron spiral staircase of the Klauskopf tower

The ascent to the stone lookout tower is possible provided the door is open. The roofed stone tower pulpit can be reached via a cast iron spiral staircase. Unfortunately, the view is somewhat restricted through the small, barred windows. But there are window openings in all directions.
