activities

hike

See also:Hiking routes in North HesseThere are excellent opportunities to get around on foot in the nature park. There are various parking spaces for hikers with marked circular hiking trails. In addition, regional hiking routes cross the nature park area. Due to the sometimes very good accessibility with public transport, the starting points for many hiking destinations can also be easily reached by bus and train.

For multi-day hikes:

Cycling with a tailwind:
The regional e-bike rental system "Movelo" makes it possible in the Habichtswald Nature Park and in Northern Hesse. For more information, see the cycling section in the article North Hesse.

Cycling

The Habichtswald Nature Park mostly has mountainous or at least hilly terrain. Sporty cyclists will find beautiful routes off the beaten track to beautiful destinations. If you want to take it easy, you can also rent a pedelec. There is then support on the mountain by electric drive. Note: cycling and hiking maps are in the section literature listed.

There is no area-wide cycle route signposting. If you want to drive off the beaten track individually, you should have a map with you. But there are also some signposted cycling routes in the area. However, even here the signs are not always "safe" (e.g. on the Kassel-Edersee cycle path). As far as the nature of the path is concerned, you have to be able to control your bike well, because even on the main routes you will find some very rough gravel sections of the path.

The landscape is very beautiful, but a rough gravel road with a steep gradient: the R4 between Naumburg and Elberberg. Here the view from the steep gravel hill towards Naumburg and Weidelsburg. Good to know: Those who have conquered the small but steep elevation can relax on a bench upstairs.

Cycling routes in the area:

  • The Discovery tour Kassel is a 48 km long cycle path through the outer districts of kassel. The circuit connects numerous well-known and lesser-known sights, monuments, works of art and district projects with one another, but also several viewpoints with a view of the Kassel basin or the hilly one Surrounding area.
  • Hess. Long-distance cycle route R4: From Sleeping Beauty to the Nibelungs - Section from Hofgeismar via Zierenberg, Wolfhagen, Naumburg to Fritzlar to the Eder.
  • Kassel-Edersee cycle path - Opened in 2009, very scenic cycle route with a very sporty elevation profile (approx. 800 - 850 m ascent with 72.1 km of route length. 2 longer climbs and various partly steeper hills). Sometimes there are bad roads (very rough gravel roads) such as on Dörnberg, south of Wolfhagen and west of Ippinghausen. Therefore, use an MTB or mountain bike with a lot of profile on the tires. Starting point: Kassel Central Station, along the ancestor to Dörnberg, Wolfhagen, Weidelsburg, Freienhagen, along Ederseeuferstraße on the bike path, destination: EderseeBarrier wall. The route is signposted with smaller intermediate signposts, which unfortunately sometimes hang in such a way that you overlook them and then get lost.
  • Warmetal cycle path - The route follows the valley of warmth via Liebenau an der Diemel, Zierenberg, Habichtswald-Ehlen, Schauenburg-Breitenbach to Schauenburg-Elmshagen. There is a connection to the Chattengau-Fulda-Weg R 12 in the direction of Niedenstein and Felsberg an der Eder.
