background

The To chat were a Germanic tribe and are considered ancestors of the North Hessians. Nowadays, the hilly area around Gudensberg in the transition to the Habichtswald Nature Park is marketed as "Chattengau" for tourism. So it is Not a historical name.

The "Chattengau and Schwalm-Eder-Aue" region does not exist as an "official tourist unit". However, it was created on Wikivoyage in order to better organize the geographical hierarchy for Northern Hesse in the location database. But also from the perspective of the traveler (e.g. topic of cycling) such an article makes sense, since the Schwalm-Eder-Niederung is the largest at least partially flat region of northern Hesse (is about 10 x 20 km in size) .

Official natural spaces

Geographically, the "official natural areas" Fritzlarer Ederflur, Fritzlarer Börde, Gudensberger Kuppenschwelle, Großenengliser Platte, Schwalmaue, and the Homberg Bay can be assigned to the tourist region "Chattengau and Ederniederung". In the Borken area, parts of the Trockenerfurther area, the Borken basin and the northernmost foothills of the Frielendorfer hill country can be assigned to this tourist "Wikivoyage region" (see map here in the environmental atlas of the state of Hesse).
