The Waldecker Land is a holiday region in North Hesse. Today's holiday region is largely identical to the Waldeck-Frankenberg district.
Regions
- Upland - Hessian part of the northern part Rothaar Mountains around Willingen.
- Kellerwald - Large parts of the low mountain range with the "Kellerwald-Edersee" national park belong to the Waldecker Land
- Holiday region Edersee - The most famous holiday region in the Waldecker Land for the warm season of the year. There are numerous sights and good opportunities for an active holiday (hiking, cycling, water sports).
- Diemelsee Nature Park - Holiday region around the Diemel dam
- Ederbergland - The following towns and communities in the upper Eder area market themselves under the term "Ederbergland" for tourism: Frankenberg (Eder), Battenberg (Eder), Hatzfeld (Eder), Allendorf (Eder) and Bromskirchen. A popular destination in the region is the 678 m high Bagpipe with observation tower, summer toboggan run and in winter alpine skiing with chairlift.
Note: The region also belongs to the official "Waldecker Land" tourism region, which is largely identical to the Waldeck-Frankenberg district Burgwald. On Wikivoyage, however, the Burgwald is already included in Central Hesse, as it is clearly located in the catchment area of Marburg (e.g. destination for day trips to the mountains).
places
- Bad Arolsen - Spa town with residential palace and Twistesee
- Bad Wildungen - Renowned spa town on the northeastern edge of the Kellerwald
- Edertal - Municipality with more than 10 districts on the southern Edersee and in the Edertal between Edersee and Fritzlar
- Frankenberg (Eder) - City on the upper Eder. Frankenberg is known for its half-timbered town hall
- Korbach - Worth seeing half-timbered old town, fossil site "Korbach Column". As the district town of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, Korbach is the regional center of the region today.
- Lichtenfels (Hesse) - rural community west of the upper Eder on the foothills of the Rothaargebirge. The scenic Lichtenfels is largely off the beaten track. The eponymous Lichtenfels Castle is privately owned and cannot be visited.
- Volkmarsen - Small town in the northern Waldecker Land in the Twisten lowlands. The ruined Kugelsburg castle towering over the town is well worth seeing.
For other smaller places see also in the sub-regions.
Other goals
- Kellerwald-Edersee National Park - Hesse's only national park. The park, founded in 2004, protects a beech forest.
