Diemel dam

  • 1 Barrier wall - The historic barrier wall from 1924 is a popular destination on the lake. There are no parking spaces directly at the barrier wall. Day visitors are best parked on the 1 Large Diemeltalsperre car park, on the western shore of the lake. From here it is only a 500 m walk along the embankment to the barrier wall. At the large car park you will also find restaurants, boat rentals, a bathing jetty and the pier for lake tours.
  • Lake tours and boat rental - With the small passenger ship "MS Muffert" from the large car park "Diemeltalsperre" or from Heringshausen lake tours are possible. There is also a boat rental with pedal boats and electric boats at the pier (info)

Upper Diemelsee view

  • Lookout points at the reservoir - You have a beautiful view of the dam from the 595 m high Eisenberg. From its steep western slope there are several beautiful views of the dam, which is about 200 m below. However, it leads directly from the barrier wall no hiking trail through the steep slope up towards the prospects. There is an entry point on the eastern shore road about 500 m south of the dam or in Helminghausen directly at the northern end of the compensation pond. From here signposted hiking trails lead up in serpentines towards the summit. Here you will find the highest viewpoint above the reservoir: 1 Upper Diemelsee view . That is also worthwhile 2 St. Muffert lookout point (See Openstreetmap for hiking trails). Alternatively, you can start the tour in Heringhausen. If you feel like it, you can also take a boat tour. The route "Großparkplatz Diemeltalsperre" to Heringhausen is covered with the "MS Muffert" (see above for information).
