Korbach is a city in North Hesse. The Hanseatic city has a half-timbered old town. Korbach was mentioned in the Hanseatic League in 1469. This made Korbach the only Hessian Hanseatic city. Since the end of April 2013 Korbach has been the 22nd member of the modern Hanseatic League and can therefore call itself "Hanseatic City" again.[1]

Korbach has a small sports airfield with a 600 m long grass runway.

By train

Korbach is on the Kurhessenbahn (R4 (KBS 612) kasselWolfhagenBad Arolsen–Korbach; R42 (KBS 622) Marburg (Lahn)Frankenberg (Eder)–Korbach–Willingen (Upland)Brilon). The travel time from Kassel is with the Kurhessenbahn approx. 90 minutes, although Korbach is only approx. 50 km west of Kassel. Due to the topography and the cities to be developed, the railway was built with large loops. The trains run every two hours, from Kassel every hour on weekdays.

  • The 1 Korbach main station has four platforms, but only platforms 3 and 4 are barrier-free. Passengers with wheelchairs should contact the train driver, who will ensure that trains stop at the appropriate platforms, both when getting on and off and when changing trains.

Opening times DB customer center: Mon - Fri from 7.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you stop in Korbach when you change trains, you can pass the time in the nearby pedestrian zone. For example, there is an ice cream parlor and a savings bank with an ATM about 250 m from the train station.

Freely accessible toilets and a closed, but unheated waiting hall can be found at the bus station (ZOB). This is located directly on platform 3 or 4 (Arolser Landstrasse) and should not be confused with the Hauptbahnhof (city bus) bus stop, which is on the "Am Hauptbahnhof" street.

By bus

There is a collective call tax system in the entire district of Waldeck-Frankenberg. From around 5 a.m. to around 1 a.m., taxis at the NVV tariff with a euro surcharge travel to all locations if there is no bus or train journey within 30 minutes. The mobility center can be reached: Sunday and public holidays to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to midnight; Registration: (05631) -506208.

  • from the Rhine Main Area: A5 to the Reiskirchner Dreieck; then briefly about the A480 to the Gießener Nordkreuz; B3 to Cölbe north of Marburg; about the B252 is finally reached over Frankenberg (Eder) the goal of Korbach.

Old town

Korbach has a large old town with some interesting half-timbered buildings and other structures. The "Goldspur Korbach" leads to the sights of the old town. These are "gold coins" embedded in the ground, the trail of which can be followed.

  • 1  St. Kilian's Church. Gothic building, built between 1335 and 1450, splendid altar. Further information can be found in the church guide (PDF file).
  • 2  St. Nicholas Church. Hall church, built between 1395 and 1450.
  • 3  Tylenturm. The tower from the 14th century is one of the remains of the still quite well-preserved city fortifications. Since 1996 the building has had a roof and a staircase again. The tower can be climbed as part of the city tours.
