Museums
1 Museum Haus Hövener. Open: Tue to Sun 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.Price: 4 €.
- The Museum Haus Hövener shows a collection on Brilon's economic, social and cultural history in a listed building. The last descendant of the owner and founder family, Wilhelmine Hövener, gave a trade family the unique opportunity to look into such a life by handing over an almost complete household. The owner and donor family, who were active in the mining and ironworking industry for over four centuries, left behind an extensive inventory consisting of furniture, ancestral gallery, economic archive and specialist library. This gives the visitor the unique opportunity to immerse himself in the history of a mining region. Two rooms on the first floor were used as guest rooms with sleeping rooms during the time of Charlotte Catharina Unkraut; Bishop Richard Dammers, a relative of the family, stayed here frequently. From 1910, Antonie Hövener and her daughter Wilhelmine used these two rooms as bedrooms. Wilhelmine Hövener had set up a reception room for guests on the first half-floor, halfway up the stairs. The former director of studies received her visitors here until her death in the late 1990s; She has almost never allowed access to her living area. The exhibition on the topic of dinosaurs in the basement is also interesting.
