Marsberg is a small town in the east Sauerland. It is located in the Hochsauerlandkreis, in South Westphalia North Rhine-Westphalia on the border with Hesse.

The city of Marsberg was created in 1974 as part of a municipal reform, it was formed from 17 districts. The administrative seat is in the largest district of Niedermarsberg, the other districts are Beringhausen, Borntosten, Bredelar, Canstein, Erlinghausen, Essentho, Giershagen, Heddinghausen, Helminghausen, Leitmar, Meerhof, Obermarsberg, Oesdorf, Padberg Udorf and Westheim.
