Wolfhagen is a small town in North Hesse located about 30 km west of Kassel.
The "Wolfhager Land" is beautifully landscaped in the Habichtswald Nature Park. It is particularly worth a visit Weidelsburg above the Ippinghausen district.

The city became a landgrave in 1231 w: Konrad of Thuringia founded.
In 1264 Wolfhagen received city rights. In 1302 the city fortifications were completed.
During the Thirty Years War, the city was almost completely razed to the ground.

- The city is on Hess. Long-distance cycle route R4: From Sleeping Beauty to the Nibelungs which opens up the city in north-south direction for the cyclist. In the area from Zierenberg via Wolfhagen to Naumburg, however, the route is quite mountainous and runs mostly on country roads, some of which are fast and also heavily traveled. The traffic-free routes are often graveled.

Wolfhagen - View of the old town from the south
Wolfhagen owns one that is worth seeing Old town with half-timbered buildings. Smaller remains of the city wall are also still there.
- The 1 Marketplace is a cozy urban space with a café and the town church. The most splendid house on the square is the half-timbered building of the “Old Town Hall”. - 2 Wolfhagen town church. The evangelical church, visible from afar, stands on the market square. When the city was founded in 1231, the construction of the church as a Gothic hall church began. The building is not purely Gothic, however. In the course of the structural changes, different styles have shaped the building. The choir windows from 1691, the glass windows by Hans-Gottfried von Stockhausen and the west portal on the tower are all worth seeing.Open: summer 8 am-6pm, winter 9 am-5pm.
- 3 St. Mary. The Catholic church was built in 1966 and replaced the emergency church on Koppenberg, which was built after the Second World War.
- 4 Cemetery chapel. The current cemetery chapel is the original Hospital chapel. It is a single-nave, high-Gothic building made of sandstone blocks.
- 5 Wolfhagen Castle. In 1513 the castle was rebuilt. It fell into disrepair at the end of the 16th century and was demolished at the beginning of the 17th century. Only remnants have survived.
- 6 Helfenberg castle ruins. The remains of the castle are located around 2.5 km east of the city center.
- 7 Chat Tower The defensive tower can be climbed as the remainder of the city fortifications. The key is available from the tourist information in the town hall.
- The freely accessible one 8 Ofenberg tower is about 1.5 km east of the city center. Nice little hike from the city center: The best way to do this is to leave the old town to the east via Mittelstrasse and the stairs "Am Hospitalgarten". From here cross the bypass road at the Karlstraße bridge. At the end of Karlstrasse, switch to the Ofenbergstrasse in a left-right combination. From the end of the Ofenbergstraße there are hiking trails through the forest up to the tower. Distance from the market square about 5 km return with about 150 meters of altitude.
- The 9 city Park lies west of the old town in a small valley. The park is not spectacular. But if you want to take a short walk close to the old town, the park with a pond and playground is a nice destination.

- 11 Museum for film and video technology, Triangelstrasse 19. Tel.: 49(0)5692 994956. The museum deals with film technology equipment up to 35 mm format. The exhibition is still under construction.Open: Sundays from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., group visits with guided tour by appointment.Price: Free entry, donation welcome.
- 12 Rauensteine rock group. The not spectacular, but worth seeing rock group is located about 5 km south of the city center between the districts of Ippinghausen and Bründersen. The sandstones are located in a wooded area and are 4 to 5 m high. The natural monument can be reached from both villages via the "Wolfsfährte" hiking trail (wolf symbol on small metal signs, Route on Openstreetmap).
- 13 "Drachenhöhle" rock cellar. The artificially created rock cellar can be found on Graner Berg. For an expedition into the cellar you need a light source. The Drachenhöhle is only accessible on foot via paths and can easily be reached by bike up to Graner Berg. As of 2014, the attraction, which is particularly interesting for families with older children, is not signposted.
