Naumburg (Hesse) is a small town about 30 km southwest of Kassel in the Habichtswald Nature Park lies. Naumburg has been a Kneipp spa since 1985.

The next long-distance traffic stop is the long-distance train station Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe. From here you can take bus lines 52 and 152 to Naumburg in 1 hour and 5 minutes (1 change on the way, status 03-2020). As a bus stop in Naumburg z. B. "Naumburg train station" in the timetable information of the Select NVV (is the museum station of the Hessencourier).

A pure vacation by public transport (even without a bike) is also possible in Naumburg, but then it is Mobility for excursions etc. already more restricted. The best thing to do is to stay in the city center without a car or bike. Everything here is largely within walking distance.

From the A 44: Leave the A 44 at junction 67 (Zierenberg). Then continue on federal roads 252 and 450 to Balhorn. From Balhorn you finally reach Naumburg via country roads through Altenstädt (about 12-15 km from the autobahn).

On foot

Naumburg is a stage stop on the premium hiking trail Habichtswaldsteig. The 78 km long natural route connects Zierenberg northwest of Kassel with the barrier wall on Edersee (official route page).

  • 6 The small former medieval observation tower is a nice destination for a walk from Naumburg. The structure is located in a pine grove about 2.5 km north of the old town.

  • Access: The control room is only accessible on foot or by bike. It is best to follow the signs for the Hessian long-distance cycle route R 4 to the north. The R4 long-distance cycle path turns off at the top 1 turn left. Continue straight ahead here and then later go right or left towards the tower (no signage). The pine grove in which the tower is hidden can soon be seen. Graveled dirt roads lead almost to the tower (see also map).

  • Day hike to the Edersee - An eventful day tour from Naumburg is the 22.5 km long hike over the Habichtswaldsteig to the Edersee. On the way you pass Waldeck Castle and other attractive viewpoints on the Edersee. The end point is the imposing barrier wall of the Edertalsperre. There is no direct bus connection back to Naumburg. From the bus stop "Edertal-Hemfurth Sperrmauer Ostseite", the NVV timetable information lists two collective call taxis of the routes AST583.2 and AST585.3 with transfer to networks (journey time 28 minutes). Alternatively, as a simpler variant, you can probably order a "private taxi" back to Naumburg at the normal taxi tariff (general taxi see section Get along).

Attractive landscape, but not easy to drive for beginners: The R4 between Naumburg and Elberberg: View from the steep gravel hill towards Naumburg and Weidelsburg. The lovely landscape around Naumburg is ideal for cycling tours. However, bike tours are still a bit of an adventure here. The routes have been signposted across the board since 2019. But: A comprehensive, well-developed network of cycle routes does not exist. Either you often have to go with z. Sometimes prefer coarser gravel roads or use country roads. As a rule, the agricultural and forestry gravel roads can still be driven satisfactorily with a good touring bike and tread tires. Always expect loose gravel. Therefore, hold the handlebars firmly on descents. You do need a bit of stamina, however, as it is mostly mountainous around Naumburg. A pedelec is therefore ideal. But there are also largely flat valley paths such as B. the well signposted Hess. Long-distance cycle route R4 to Fritzlar. Otherwise Naumburg is still on Hessencourrierradweg, which runs roughly in the area of ​​the museum railway.

  • 1 Wolfhagen - R 4 over the pass at Ippinghausen (12 km one way, route is free of traffic outside of town; however, coarser gravel roads)
  • 9 Bad Emstal - There are different routes to choose from in the cycle route network from Naumburg. Round trip around 20 to 25 km. Some stretches, however, only meadow paths.
  • Fritzlar - R 4 towards the south to the Eder (approx. 20 km easy, sometimes the R 4 uses country roads with moderate traffic here out of town)
  • over the mountain after Waldeck to the eponymous castle and to the Edersee (about 13 km to Waldeck-West by road over Netze). But there are also possibilities to evade nets into the forest - over the Hasengrund past the rest home on the (2 largely traffic-free cycle route Naumburg - Edersee-Bahnradweg: Am Erholungsheim) and over 3 largely traffic-free cycle route Naumburg - Ederseebahn cycle path: ridge height in the forest) to the Ederseebahn cycle path north nets and the (4 largely traffic-free cycle route Naumburg - Ederseebahn cycle path: ascent on the railway cycle path.   • 2 Korbach - It is best to take the rest home and forest paths at (gravel cover) in the direction of Netze without traffic. Here on the L 3068 on the attractive Ederseebahn cycle path drive up. This well-developed railway cycle path leads to Korbach (a somewhat longer route with around 25 - 30 km easy, but only with steeper meters in altitude in the Naumburg Netze area).   • Round trip "Edersee and Fritzlar": It is a larger, more demanding round tour with around 50 - 60 km: Naumburg - Hasengrund (past the rest home) - Netze (no signposts up to this point) - Waldeck Castle - Ederseeuferstraße - barrier wall near Hemfurth. From here on the Eder cycle path to Fritzlar. Before Fritzlar, turn off onto the R 4, which leads through the historic old town of Fritzlar. In Fritzlar A stop at the beautiful half-timbered marketplace is recommended. On the way back to Naumburg you can still look into the castle park of Gravensburg Castle.
