Stölzinger Mountains - Stölzinger Gebirge

The Stölzinger Mountains located in North Hesse between the middle Fulda and the Wehretal completely off the beaten track. If you are looking for a quiet low mountain range with plenty of peace and quiet for hiking, this is the right place for you. The highest elevation of the low mountain range is the 583 m high iceberg, which is rather uninteresting for tourists.

Half-timbered buildings on the market square of Spangenberg, the "pearl" of the Stölzinger Mountains

In the Stölzinger Gebirge itself you will not find any larger places, only smaller villages that belong to the towns and communities on the edge of the mountainous region:

Clockwise:

  • Wehretal - is located on the river of the same name
  • Sontra - is located west of the Ringgau
  • Bebra - Railway town with railway museum
  • Rotten on the Fulda - the monastery Haydau is worth seeing
  • Spangenberg - little known, but the castle and the small half-timbered old town are worth seeing. The small town is the only place right in the mountains.
