Rotenburg an der Fulda is located in the middle of the slightly hilly landscape in the former border region between West and East Germany, a little away from the major urban centers, but easily accessible. For example from Frankfurt am Main From there, you can take the train directly to the town in around two and a half hours. The surrounding area is characterized by wide fields, the hills rise around them, mostly they are densely forested.
The settlement of several authorities and universities of applied sciences was originally carried out here for structural support. The small district court was closed in 2011. The Bundeswehr site has also been significantly reduced in size since 2006.

The cheapest way to travel by plane is via the Frankfurt am Main airport, from there by train via Fulda to Rotenburg an der Fulda. There is that in the east Erfurt airport and the Leipzig Halle Airport.
By train
Rotenburg an der Fulda has its own small train station and is via the regional train 5 Fulda – Kassel every hour during the week to the IC / ICE junction Fulda and Bad Hersfeld connected (on the weekend slightly different timetable). Half-timbered row on the Fulda
- Old town with many Half-timbered houses
- Half-timbered row on the Fulda bridge, The beautiful houses are said to have been partly rebuilt, partly they have been "supplemented". The sight is therefore not entirely historical.
- Bread alley with numerous medieval half-timbered buildings. The houses have carved doors and inscriptions. A Jewish school was located in house number 19. In 1885, 70 Jewish families lived here.

- 2 Witch tower, 36199 Rotenburg on the Fulda. The last "witch" was imprisoned here in 1668. There are also remains of the city wall available.

- 4 Old bailiwick, Steinweg 15, 36199 Rotenburg an der Fulda. was built in 1555 for the bailiff (district administrator), came into the possession of the landgrave around 1600 and became the district bailiff (administrative and court seat). Private ownership again since 1880.
- 5 Landgrave Castle.
Built in the Renaissance style in 1570 and later supplemented and renewed in contemporary styles. The parish church stands on the foundations of a smaller previous church. The medieval dimensions are on the west portal Mesgert and Fathoms for public re-measurement. The tower was added later in 1548. The organ is from 1682.

Alheimerturm
- Alheimer Berg - The 547.8 m high mountain is about 6 km north of Rotenburg. On the elevation there is an observation tower with one of the most beautiful panoramic views over the Middle Fulda valley and the green mountain ranges of Waldhessen.
- Arrival by car: Leave Rotenburg on the B 83 in the direction of Melsungen. About 1 km after leaving the village, the driveway to Alheimer branches off to the right. Attention: this narrow street is closed at night (from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.). From 1 Parking lot for hikers you have to cope with the remaining 110 meters on foot. The almost 1000 m to the tower run on a beautiful, sometimes somewhat steeper hiking path in the forest.
- On foot from Rotenburg: The Alheimer is a nice destination for a day hike (approx. 15 km tour from the old town). The ascent is best done via the "Katzenkopfweg" past the cardiovascular center.
- The 21 m high tower is freely accessible. The Alheimerverein would like a small donation for the ascent (the donation safe is concreted in the stairs to prevent theft; as of 09-2013). At the parking lot there is also the Alheimer Hut (Small snack station that is open on Sat, Sun and public holidays. In the summer months, it is also open on Fridays from noon).
- Excursion to the northern Stölzinger Mountains Lookout tower goat club - The small vantage point is largely off the beaten track, about 15 km as the crow flies north of Rotenburg. Approach by car from Rotenburg is best via Lispenhausen and Dankerode 2 Eltmannnsee. The small hamlet is already at around 400 m above sea level. From here you walk 3.1 km over gravel roads to the tower.
