Knysna is an emerging place in the Garden Route in the Western Cape Province. Knysna is known for its lagoon and oyster catching.

Knysna ((nˈаɪznə) is located on the Indian Ocean on a lagoon of the Knysna River at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains. The place is the administrative seat of the municipality of Knysna, which also includes Sedgefield, Brenton-on-Sea, Buffalo Bay, Noetzie and Rheenendal.

By plane

The nearest commercial airport is in George, about 45 minutes by car from Knysna. From there there are good connections to Johannesburg and Cape Town, as well as after Durban and Bloemfontein. You can also rent a car at the airport and take it to Knysna.

In the street

Knysna is right on the national road N2 and can therefore be easily reached from all major cities in the country.

By bus

Long-distance buses stop on Remembrance Avenue at the train station.

If necessary, the Bazbus stops on its journey between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth or vice versa in Knysna.

For shorter distances, especially to George or Plettenberg Bay, minibus taxis are more practical. You are driving away from Market Street, the destinations are marked there.

Knysna Lake Area

The lagoon was placed under the protection of the national park administration in 1985 and has been part of the Garden Route National Parks. She's only with them Heads called rocky hills connected to the Indian Ocean. At high tide, seawater regularly enters the lagoon, its brackish water is home to numerous species of fish, including the rare seahorse Hippocampus capenis.

The Western Head is part of the Featherbed nature reserve and can be visited as part of a tour there.

The Eastern Head is freely accessible (which also means that it is built with villas), there are three viewpoints at different heights. There is that towards the ocean Coney Glen-Beach.
