Colorado - Midwest state USA. It borders with 7 other states. In the north with Wyoming and Nebraska, in the east with Kansas, in the south of Oklahoma and New Mexico, and (at one point) With Arizona and in the west with Utah. Colorado has an artificial border which results in a quadrilateral shape. The name of the territory, and since 1876 the state, comes from the name of the river Colorado.

Geography

It is diverse, consisting of high mountains, highlands with canyons, vast lowlands and deserts. The average elevation of the state is 2070 m above sea level, the highest point is the summit Mount Elbert (4,401.2 m), and the lowest is the Arikaree River on the Kansas border (1011 m). The eastern half of the state is flat as it is the western end Great Plains occupying the central part of the territory of the United States.

In the central part of the state in the meridional direction it is located Front Range (along the 40th meridian of west latitude), rapid elevation of the area, which rises nearly 3,000 meters at a distance of several hundred meters to several kilometers, creating the highest part of the chain Rocky Mountains.
