Kom Ombo, Arabic:كوم أمبو‎, Kōm / Hardly any umbu, is a middle town in Upper Egypt on the east bank of the Nile in the governorate Aswan, located about 65 kilometers south of Edfu and about 50 kilometers north of Aswan. About 72,000 people live in Kom Ombo.[1] The economic base of the city is agriculture (grain, sugar cane). To the west of the city is the one named after her Double temple of Kom Ombo.

Few finds prove a settlement before the Greco-Roman period, so finds from the Paleolithic and settlement remains from the 18th dynasty have been revealed.

The journey can be made by train, bus or car Aswan respectively. As the temple is west of the city, you need a taxi to get to the temple.

For arrival and departure to Aswan or Luxor you don't need a convoy between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. At night you have to rely on a private convoy, which is subject to a fee.

The Ptolemaic Double temple of Sobek and Haroeris is the main attraction of the city. Opening hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission price LE 50 including the crocodile museum (as of 3/2015).

Through the entrance pylon on the west side you can reach the courtyard with the columns, some of which are decorated in color. Then you enter the vestibule (pronaos), the inner entrance sides of which show beautiful relief representations. Two doors indicate the use for two deities: the left (northern) side is for the falcon-headed Haroeris, the right for the crocodile god Sobek.

This dichotomy continues in the following columned hall. In the north-west corner of the columned hall you can see Haroeris handing a sickle sword to King Euergetes II and his wife, the wall surface between the two doors is dedicated to the Sobek of Ombos. Now there are three vestibules, at the ends of which are the sanctuaries (holiest of holies) for both deities.

From the pronaos or the pillared hall you can reach the inner temple, on its east side there are several chapels. From the courtyard, however, you can reach the outer temple. On its east side is the most famous representation of the temple: medical instruments are handed over to Haroeris by the kneeling Emperor Trajan.

There are other buildings on the north side of the temple. In the west that is only partially preserved Mammisi (Birthplace), east of it two Fountain, also serving as a Nilometer and at the extreme east end the remains of a small one Sobek chapel. On the south side you can find the remains of a small and unfinished one Hathor Chapel.

In the immediate vicinity of the double temple Crocodile Museum from Kom Ombo. On the one hand, mummified crocodiles and eggs are presented. On the other hand, various statues and reliefs are exhibited that show the crocodile god Sobek.

There are no hotels in the city. Tourists commonly visit Kom Ombo from Luxor or Aswan out.
