Vas county - a county in the west Hungarian, over the border with Austria and Slovenia.
The Vas county is mostly situated in the Little Hungarian Plain. The western boundary of the county extends to the foothills of the Alps (Kőszeg mountains and Órseg hills). The main river of the county is the Raba with its tributaries Sorok, Gyöngyös, Répce and Marcal.
Vas County was one of the first in Hungary. After the treaty of Trianon, the western part of the county fell to Austria (southern Burgenland), and the southern to Yugoslavia (Prekmurje).
