Kowary(German: Schmiedeberg in the Giant Mountains) is a city in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in the Giant Mountains. Their location makes them next Szklarska Poreba, Jagniątków and Karpacz the most important center of tourism in the Polish part of the Giant Mountains. The city offers opportunities for winter sports and is the starting point for hikes in the western parts of the Giant Mountains, especially in the national park and on the Schneekoppe, which is over 1600 meters above sea level. The place is officially recognized as a potential health resort.

The place was first mentioned in 1355. The inhabitants mined ore and processed it in forges. In 1513 the place received city rights. Tourism began to develop in the early 19th century. The place continued to develop, with the exception of the times of the world wars. In 1945 he came to Poland.

All roads lead through the district capital Jelenia Góra (Hirschberg). The direction Kowary is well signposted from here. From Berlin, take the A13 / A4 motorway to the border crossing at Forst. From there it goes on via the Autobahn 4 to Legnica, where you turn south in the direction of Hirschberg.
