background
The Kulmer Land was part of until the 13th century Mazovia. After the pagan mission of Bishop Christian of Prussia and the settlement of the order of knights of the Dobrin brothers in Dobrin country failed, the Polish senior and prince of Mazovia Konrad I began talks with the Teutonic Order in 1226, which he brought to the Kulmer Land in 1231. The order secured the rights to the Kulmer Land, which became the first core area of the state. In 1317 the Michelauer Land also came to the Kulmer Land, which was previously part of the Dobriner Land. In 1466, as part of the Peace of Thorn, the whole of the Kulmer Land came back to Poland-Lithuania. With the first and second partition of Poland in 1772 and 1793, the region came to Prussia and from 1807 to 1815 to the Grand Duchy of Warsaw. In 1918 and 1945 she came back to Poland.
