The two eponymous regions, Gdansk-Pomerania (Pomeranian) and Kuyavia, formed after Poland's fragmentation after 1138. However, the voivodeship also has a share in other historical regions such as Kulmer Land, Dobrin country and Michelauer Land east of the Vistula as well Pałuki, Krajna, Kashubia and Tuchel Heath west of the river.
- Kuyavia is the heart of the region and stretches south of the Vistula. It represents the most densely populated region with the largest cities in the voivodeship. It has a share in the Greater Poland Lake District, specifically on its easternmost sub-area, the Kuyavian Lake District.
- Pałuki lies to the west of Kujawy and historically belonged to Greater Poland and has some of the oldest settlements in Poland. It has part of that Greater Poland Lake District, specifically on its northern sub-areas, the Gnesen Lake District and the Colmar Lake District.
- Krajna lies in the triangle of Wielkopolska and Pomerania and historically also belonged to Wielkopolska. It is also known - after its main river - as the network district. It has part of that South Pomeranian Lake District, specifically on its southern sub-area, the Krojanker Lake District.
- Pomeranian with the Tuchel Heath and the southern edge of the Kashubia lies in the north on the border with Pomerania and historically belonged to Gdansk-Pomerania. It is also known - after its main river - as the network district. It has a share in the within the voivodeship South Pomeranian Lake District, specifically on its southeastern sub-area, the Tuchol Heath, and at the East Pomeranian Lake District, specifically on its southeastern sub-area, the Stargard Lake District.
- Pomesania lies to a small extent in the northeast of the voivodeship, north of Grudziądz,
- The Kulmer Land lies in the Vistula bend east of the river and historically belonged to Mazovia. It has part of that Kulm-Dobrin Lake District, specifically on its northern sub-area, the Kulmer Lake District, and to a small extent at the Eylauer Seenplatte in the northeast of the region.
- The Dobrin country lies in the southeast north of the Vistula and on the border with Mazovia and historically also belonged to the latter. It has part of that Kulm-Dobrin Lake District, specifically on its southern sub-area, the Dobrin Lake District.

background
The Kuyavian region was formed after the fragmentation of Poland after 1138. It was the princes of Kuyavia who reunified Poland in the 13th and 14th centuries. It is true that they then ruled out Krakow, but their homeland remained Kuyavia. In the 14th century the crusaders of the Teutonic Order tried to take Kuyavia. After the Battle of Płowcy in 1313, they withdrew. In the 15th century, the trading towns on the Vistula flourished, above all Toruń, the native city of Nicolaus Copernicus. After Krakow, Toruń has the most architectural monuments in Poland. The Golden Age lasted until around 1650 when the Swedes sacked the region. After the First and Second Partition of Poland in 1772 and 1793, Kujawy came to Prussia as part of the newly founded West Prussia. In the meantime it belonged to the Grand Duchy of Warsaw during the Napoleonic period from 1807 to 1815. It became Polish again after the First World War. During the Second World War it was part of West Prussia or the Warthegau. After 1945 it came back to Poland.
In 1999, today's Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship was formed.
language
German is often spoken in the cities, otherwise you can of course get quite far with English. In rural areas away from the main tourist regions, it becomes more difficult to communicate with German and English. Knowledge of other Slavic languages can be helpful. And finally, Polish is not as difficult to learn as you might think at first.

- Bydgoszcz has the international 1 Bydgoszcz Airport
(IATA: BZG).
- The airports are a little more important Gdansk Airport at Danzig and the Poznan Airport at Poses.
- Also the Warsaw Airport and the Modlin Airport at Warsaw are suitable for traveling to the region.
Land route
We recommend arriving by car, bus or train. The road conditions and the rail network are good. The journey is recommended from Poses via the A2.
mobility
The road network is quite dense. This also applies to train connections.

kitchen
Thorn is known for its gingerbread, the katarzynki. The regional beer brand Kujawiak, a light beer, is brewed in Bydgoszcz. The brand of beer still exists, but it is produced outside the voivodeship. For Polish cuisine, see the relevant section in the article Poland.
nightlife
There are many clubs and restaurants in Thron and Bromberg.
security
It is actually quite safe, but in large crowds, e.g. in large markets or train stations - as everywhere in the world - the necessary care should not be neglected.
climate
The climate is a transitional climate from temperate to continental. The summers are generally warm to hot with mean temperatures between 16 ° C and 21 ° C and the winters are cold, with mean temperatures around -5 ° C. Precipitation falls mainly in spring and autumn.
