background
The historical landscape of Kujawy lies on the southwest bank of the Vistula to Networks. Fertile soil and numerous salt springs caused prehistoric settlements. Originally the area was shaped by the goplanes. Around 1000 the area came to Poland. From 1233 to 1306 Kujawien formed a duchy within the Polish seniorate with the capital Inowrocław. In the 17th century, Mennonite settlers from Holland and Friesland settled in Kujawy, founded numerous villages in traditional style, some buildings have been preserved to this day. As a result of the partitions of Poland in the 18th century, Kujawia was annexed by Prussia and divided between Prussia and Russia at the Congress of Vienna. Since the end of the First World War Kujawien belonged to Poland.
