Kumamoto is a prefecture japanese, located in the region of Kyushu. Its central position makes it a good starting point for exploring the whole island. Trains allow day trips to Beppu, at Mount Aso, or at Kagoshima.

There are several unique traditional food specialties in Kumamoto Prefecture. First of all, the karashirenkon is one of the most popular foods in Kumamoto. It is a lotus root whose holes are filled with mustard, covered with soybeans and wheat flour, and fried. Second, the basashi is also a popular traditional specialty of the region. It's raw horse meat, and people in Kumamoto eat it with soy sauce and ginger. takana, a type of vegetable, is one of the specialties ofAso, and there are many types of seafood to Amakusa. Also, Kumamoto is famous for its ramen tonkotsu (in boiled pork rib broth). There are sometimes queues in front of restaurants to eat it.

TheIkinaridango is a famous pastry shop in Kumamoto. It contains sweet potato and anko, which are then covered with a dough made from wheat flour. When you bite it, you will find that the sweet potato has a light, dry texture. "Ikinari" from ikinaridango means "sonomama" - "like it is" or "just like that" in the Kumamoto region. He also called Ikinaridago or Ikinarimanzyu. It will cost 80-100 JPY. You should try at least once!
