Koenigstein is a city in the Saxon Switzerland.
background
Königstein lies at the mouth of the Biela and the Elbe. The city was first mentioned in documents in 1379 as a market town at the foot of the castle built on the "Stein" at the beginning of the 13th century.
There are the following districts:
- Flatness on the opposite side of the Elbe

Koenigsstein Fortress
The Königsstein Fortress is one of the largest mountain fortresses in Europe. The rock plateau rises 240 meters above the Elbe. There are over 50 buildings up to 400 years old on it.
