Luetjenburg

Luetjenburg is a neat little town in the northern part of the Holstein Switzerland. The city is the regional supply center Hohwachter Bay. With its cozy clinker old town, the city invites you to stroll. The replica of a medieval hilltop castle and the Ice Age Museum are also worth seeing.

The name of the 800 year old city is derived from the Wendish name "Liutcha" and means place or settlement in an impassable, steep area. This probably meant the hills around the historic city that were formed during the last ice age.

Rail traffic on the Malente-Gremsmühlen-Lütjenburg line was stopped on May 29, 1976. The station building and most of the city's tracks have now been demolished. The nearest train stations are in Kiel, Plön and Malente.
