How to get
On the train
- 1 Tōbu Nikkō Station (東 武 日光 駅, tōbu-nikkō-eki) (About 2km west of the sanctuary area). Only Tobu trains stop at this station
- 2 Nikkō Station (日光 駅, nikkō-eki) (About 2km west of the sanctuary area). This station is for the JR Nikkō Line trains.
By bus
The area can be reached by taking bus 1 or 2 from Nikkō and Tobu-Nikkō stations, staying on the bus past the temple area. The 20km journey takes approximately 1 hour.
How to get around
Tourist boats travel every hour from 9: 30-15: 30, in winter 10: 30-14: 30) and offer spectacular views.
Buses 1 and 2 also allow you to reach the various parts of the lake.

The cableway
- 1 Akechidaira cable car (明智 平 ロ ー プ ウ ェ イ, Akechidaira Rōpuwei) (On the way to Lake Chuzenji, stop No. 23).
520¥. The cable car ends the road at a point from which there is a fabulous view of Lake Chuzenji, Kegon Falls and Mount Nantai.

Kegon Falls
- 2 Kegon waterfall (華 厳 滝, kegon taki) (5 minutes walk from the Chuzenji bus stop located on the main road in the opposite direction of the Chuzenji lake. Bus stop 24. Very well signposted).

From December to February 9: 00-16: 30, from March to April 8: 00-17: 00, from May to September 7: 30-18: 00, October 7: 30-18: 00, November 7: 30- 17:00. One of three best waterfalls in Japan. The waterfall is wide in early spring when the snow melts.

- 3 Ryūzu Falls (龍頭 滝) (Bus stop no.35). In the spring, this waterfall is surrounded by azaleas and in the fall it is lined with colorful, lush leaves.

Odashirogahara Plateau
- 4 Odashirogahara Plateau (小田 代 ヶ 原) (Bus stop n ° 36). A marshy area surrounded by Mongolian oak forests. Famous for a lone birch known as the Lady of Odashirogahara.
- 5 Senjogahara Plateau (戦 場 ヶ 原) (Bus stop no. 38). Swamps, with a path on raised wooden boards and beautiful flowers.
- 6 Yudaki waterfall (湯 滝) (Bus stop 40). A 70m waterfall that flows from Yunoko Lake. There is also an observation point in the waterfall basin.
- 7 Yunoko Lake (湯 ノ 湖) (Bus stop no.41). A beautiful lake surrounded by a path to be covered in about 1 hour.

What to do
- 1 Nikkō Yumoto Onsen (日光 湯 本 温泉 ス キ ー 場) (near Yunoko Lake and Yumoto Hot Springs), ☎ 81 288-62-2532. Ski and spa resort.
- 2 Akagane Water Park (銅 親水 公園 Akagane Shinsui Kōen). Adventurous hikers may want to take the bus to Matō City, along National Route 122 in the southwest corner of Nikkō City Territory, for a hike to Akagane Shinsui Kōen, sold as the Grand Canyon of the Japan, ever since pollution killed all the trees and left the valley bare. The infamous Ashio copper mine was located nearby.

- Kirifuri Falls. Waterfalls, hiking trails and the possibility of skiing in winter.
- Kinugawa. Unconventional hot springs and theme parks Tōbū World Square and Edo Wonderland.
- Yumoto (30 minutes on the hills). A hot spring complex perched near Lake Yunoko where the Yudaki waterfall plunges.
- Those interested in steam locomotives or pottery can enjoy Mashiko on the way back to Tokyo.
