background

The name Kantō derives from the old trade route Tōkaidō. It connected the old imperial city Kyoto With Tokyo. In Hakone was the control station at Lake Ashi Seki-sho. The Tokyo area is east of the lock, hence the name Kantō, in contrast, the area is around Kyoto, Kobe and Osaka west of it, was accordingly Kansai called.

The largest industrial area in Kantō is the Keihin Industrial Zone. Keihin (京 浜) is made up of the second characters from Tōkyō and Yokohama(横 浜), the capital of Kanagawa. The Keihin Industrial Zone is part of the "Pacific Belt" (太平洋 ベ ル ト), a belt of several industrial zones that extends from Tōkyō to the city Kitakyushu on the southernmost main island Kyushu on the Pacific and the Japanese Inland Sea Setonai-kai(瀬 戸 内海) pulls along.
