Monument to the German Shepherd
- Good Shepherd Church. The Church of the Good Shepherd is a small church made of field stones without any special decoration. It is worth seeing because of the spectacular location on Lake Tekapo, the view through the window at the altar shows a chain of snow-capped Alpine peaks above the bright blue lake. Next to the church is what is probably New Zealand's most photographed dog. Its bronze statue was dedicated to the shepherd dogs, without which intensive sheep breeding would probably not have been possible. When the weather is clear, one of the most beautiful starry skies in New Zealand can be observed here. A visit to the observatory on Mount John, directly on the lake, is recommended. During the day you also have a great view over the turquoise lake, which gets its color from the glacier water of the Godley River.
