Tourist Attractions

Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao
Wat Srichum, Lampang
  • Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao. Is one of the most revered temples in Thailand. According to tradition, this was the location of the famous from 1434 to 1468 Emerald Buddhasthat you can see in Bangkok today. Legend has it that the elephant that was supposed to bring the green gemstone figure to Chiang Mai refused and kept going back to Lampang. It was only after more than 30 years that it was really brought to the then capital of the northern Thai Lan-Na empire. A clay elephant recalls this story. Most of the buildings that are preserved today were designed around 1680, when northern Thailand was under the control of Burma, so the beautiful wood carvings show Burmese style elements.
  • Wat Sri Bunrueang and Wat Pa Fang, two sprawling Burmese style temples that were expanded by wealthy Thais in the late 19th century.
  • Wat Phra That Chedi Sao. the Temple of the Twenty Chedis.
