Itineraries

Bunratty Castle
  • Bunratty Castle is Folk Park (15km from the city center via the road towards Shannon Airport) - Built in the 15th century, Bunratty Castle is one of the best known castles in Ireland. It was meticulously restored in 1950 by its buyer, Lord Gort. It is possible to feast in its rooms accompanied by the notes of minstrels in medieval costumes. The adjacent Folk Park is the reconstruction of an Irish village of the late '800 complete with shops and artisans who sell their artifacts. Leaving the castle and Shannon airport behind you can continue to the village of Ennis (37 km) which has preserved the medieval layout in the alleys of the center. After Ennis the landscape becomes hairless, a prelude to the wastelands of Burren and its national park (62 km from Limerick). A branch from Ennis, the "N85" leads to Cliffs of Moher (78km from Limerick), high cliffs with captivating views of the Ocean.
  • To give (18 km by the road to Killarnei) - Picturesque village with thatched roof houses
  • Cashel (60 km on the N24) - Town in which the Rock of Cashel, former residence of the kings of Munster passed in the hands of the church at the beginning of the 12th century. The site is one of Ireland's top attractions.
  • Portumna (72km on the N7) - Located where the River Shannon flows into Lough Derg, Portumna is the place to charter a boat and descend the lower Shannon. Closer to Limerick is the village of Mountshannon (43km) also on the banks of Lough Derg and where fishing is possible.
