Background
Tradition says that the Holy House appeared in the vicinity of Recanati on 10 December 1294, and then again transported by the angels to the place where it is still located, and where the Sanctuary was built. At first the inhabited area was called Villa S. Maria, then Villa Loreti, probably due to the laurel woods that surrounded the area.
