Luneville is a city in the department Meurthe-et-Moselle in the historical region Lorraine (today's region Grand Est) in France.

The rise of the previously insignificant place (today the seat of a sub-prefecture) on the river Meurthe began in 1702, when after the occupation of Nancy Duke by French troops Léopold of Lorraine moved his residence to Lunéville, had the huge castle built and founded an academy. The former Polish king Stanislas Leszczynski resided here as Duke of Lorraine until his death in 1766, when Lorraine fell to France.

The Meurthe is not navigable in Lunéville. However, the Rhine-Marne Canal passes around 8 km north.

You can reach Strasbourg on the Rhine-Marne Canal Cycle Route Gondrexange. For the rest of the route you have to rely on small roads.
