L'Île-Rousse (Corsican: L’Isula Rossa or Lìsula) is a port city on the French Mediterranean island Corsica. The city of the red rock is located in the region Balagne in the department Upper Corsica and is called by mainland ferries.

background

The city is the capital of the canton of L’Île-Rousse, which is located in the Arrondissement of Calvi. People settled in the area as early as Roman times, which resulted in a fishing village. Pascal Paoli then elevated the village to a commercial port with city fortifications in 1759, among other things to give the Genoese city of Calvi a Corsican counterpart.

getting there

By train

The island railway company Chemin de Fer du Corse (CFC) operates the 1 City train station five times a day Calvi (Journey time 40 minutes).

From Bastia or Ajaccio you can take the train up to Ponte Leccia and change there twice a day (morning and evening) to a scheduled bus to L’Île-Rousse (and on to Calvi). The drive from Bastia takes just under two hours, from Ajaccio 3½ hours.
