Madagascar is an island country in East Africa.
Despite its proximity to the African continent, scientific studies show that the island's population came from Kalimantan and Polynesia sometime between the 4th century BC and the 6th century AD. Later new migrants came from Africa, followed by Arab, Persian, Indian and Chinese sailors. The Malagasy culture and appearance is influenced by many peoples.
Madagascar is part of the African Union, but its membership is suspended in 2009-13. Political crises in 2002 and 2009-10 led to a decline in tourism, but the situation improved with acceptance of the new constitution in 2010 and the presidential elections in 2013, which the international community deemed free and properly calculated. It can be hoped that the country will continue to resolve conflicts through discussions.
The Malagasy population consists of 18 ethnic groups, among which the dominant and largest are Merinos, inhabitants of the central plateau, where the capital is also located.
