background
The place was already a settlement point in the Bronze Age. The Romans built a fishing village here, the remains of which can still be visited in the district of La Duquesa. In addition, Julius Caesar is said to have cured a skin disease in the sulfur-containing springs (Bad von Hedionda). The Torre de Chullera, a watchtower on the coast, is still visible from the Moors.
Manilva yourself and Allcorin are about 2 km inland, the districts La Chullera, La Duquesa (with the port of Puerto de la Duquesa) and Sabinillas right on the coast. In the northeast, behind the Manilva River, lies the neighboring town Casares. In the southwest it is only 35 km to Gibraltar.
