Marne is a french Department in the historical region Champagne-Ardenne (part of the region since 2016 Grand Est), named after the longest river in France, the Marne, which merges into the Seine after 525 km near Paris. The department with the serial number 51 has about 525,000 inhabitants, who are spread over an area of 8162 km². Neighboring departments are (clockwise, starting in the north the department Ardennes, in the East Meuse, in the south East Haute-Marne, in the south Aube, in the southwest Seine-et-Marne and in the northwest Aisne.
