Understand
Mauritius or Mauritius, also called the Mauritius Islands or Mauritius Islands, is a country in the Indian Ocean, consisting of the eastern Mascarenhas islands (Mauritius and Rodrigues islands) and two islet archipelagos further north: the Cargados Carajos and Agalega islands. Mauritius is still in dispute with Madagascar and France for the island of Tromelin. Its closest neighbors are the French department of Réunion to the west and the Seychelles to the north. Its capital is Port Louis. Along with Libya and Seychelles, it is the only country on the African continent with a Human Development Index considered high.

The national cuisine is a mixture of influences from Creole, Chinese, French and Indian cuisine. It is common to combine these cuisines to prepare a dish. Mauritius has strong cultural ties with France The popularity of French dishes such as daube, civet de lièvre or coq au vin served with wine shows the prevalence of French cuisine in Mauritius in the present. Over the years, some recipes have been adapted with the addition of more exotic ingredients native to the island, which gives, in many cases, a unique flavor. During the 19th century, after the abolition of slavery, Indian workers migrated to the island bringing their cuisine with them. At the end of the same century, another wave of immigration came, this time from China, especially Chinese from the southwest region of China, which also influenced the local cuisine. Over the years, each community adapted and mixed elements of each other to its own taste, resulting in current cuisine. Rum production is common on the island. Sugar cane was first introduced by Dutch colonization in the year 1638.
drink and go out
Mauritius produces a wide variety of sugarcane rum. It's very cheap and it's a nice drink when mixed with cola and ice. Don't forget the coconut water with a hint of lemon and some local rum with ice. The serious amateur will try to find a five year old (or older) bottle of rum. It's worth the price difference!
