Mettlach is a city in Saarland. It is known nationwide as the administrative headquarters of the ceramic company Villeroy & Boch and for the Saar loop.

background

Towards the end of the 7th century, the Franconian Duke Lutwinus, later Bishop of Tier, founded one on the site of today's Mettlach Benedictine Abbey. The oldest preserved building is the Old tower. In 1802 the monastery was dissolved in the course of secularization, the former abbey is now the headquarters of the Villeroy & Boch company.

In 1974 the then independent communities Bethingen, Dreisbach, Faha, Mettlach, Nohn, Orscholz, Saarhölzbach, Tünsdorf, Wehingen and Weiten united to form the new municipality of Mettlach.

By train
