Mittelberg is a place and a municipality in Kleinwalsertal in the Allgäu Alps in the Austrian federal state Vorarlberg. The municipality includes the three places Mittelberg, Hirschegg and Riezlern. The community forms a functional exclave as it can only be reached from Germany.

In the 13th century the area was settled by Walsers of Swiss origin. The local population speaks an Alemannic dialect.

With the Walmendingerhornbahn, built in 1966, you can reach an extensive hiking area around the Walmendingerhorn. The valley station is located near the center of Mittelberg. The ski areas can be reached via two chair lifts.

  • With the Walserbus, the Kleinwalsertal has set up a very stable transport system that transports you quickly and safely within the valley. The Walserbus not only runs on the main line of the Kleinwalsertal. The districts are also approached with secondary lines. Transport is free for holders of the Kleinwalsertal Guest Card.

Every Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Walser businesspeople offer their mostly local and down-to-earth products on the village square in Hirschegg. Action days enrich the program from time to time.
