Waters

Rivers:

  • Iller: Forms with Oberstdorf from the three mountain rivers Trettach, Stillach and Breitach at the so-called Illerursprung or Illersprung. The Trettach offers beautiful cycling and hiking trails into the Trettach Valley. The Stillach rises in Einödsbach, Germany's southernmost dwelling. The Stillach is suitable for kayaking and offers beautiful hiking trails, bike paths and cross-country skiing trails along the shore. The Breitach rises in Kleinwalsertal and breaks the line at the Breitachklamm. On the Breitach there are difficult kayak routes and narrow hiking trails in the upper reaches, while the lower reaches after the gorge is perfect for rafting and is also accompanied by well-developed bike and hiking trails.

Canyoning

Canyoning is tolerated in the Allgäu Alps and thus offers a special position in Germany. Various gorges are ideal for canyoning. The Starzlachklamm is particularly popular with Castle Hill as well as the Ostertaltobel in Gunzesried. in the Kleinwalsertal the Schwarzwasserbach offers canyoning for advanced riders. At Reutte the Stuibenfalls are a popular destination for canyoning beginners. In the high mountains of the Allgäu Alps there are many other worthwhile canyons, but they are not approved for commercial canyoning tours and are reserved exclusively for experts due to the difficulties.
