Local dishes

The local Isny cuisine is shaped by the rural tradition of the Allgäu. That is, it is simple but very substantial. Here is a small selection:Potato noodles,Kässpätzle,Fried potatoes with blood and liver sausage,Lentils and spaetzle,Kuddle,Cabbage donuts,Steamed noodles,Tamper,Häberles Mus,Sulz,Meatloaf.

Unfortunately it is not easy to find a restaurant that has these dishes on the menu. Most of the restaurants and pubs have unfortunately adapted to international cuisine and only offer standard European dishes. In the old town there are some good middle-class inns as well as pizzerias and Asian gastronomy. Local specialties are most likely still available in the village inns in the area. Here it is often worth asking about dishes that are not on the menu! (Old Allgäu wisdom: S'believingly eats the landlord sell!)

nightlife

Isny has a small student life, thanks to the science and technology academy with around a thousand students. However, the city's nightlife has been neglected in the past. Pubs and discos had to close again and again. But there are always new ones, especially in the old town. There are pubs, cafes and a few restaurants here.

Practical advice

trips

  • Field dump. Isny's local mountain, located on the southwestern outskirts, where generations of Isny's people have learned to ski, is a great vantage point in every season. From the market square in the middle of the old town (starting point) you go west through Obertorstraße and continue along Lindauerstraße to the police station. Here you turn left into Spitalhofweg. The path now leads slightly uphill and after a few minutes we are at the foot of the fields heap. We follow the course of the Spitalhofweg to the left to the fork and then turn right into the Lohbauerweg. Now it's a short stretch uphill. Once at the top we see a steep staircase on the right. This leads us to the first plateau with the Württemberg monument. Mountain Division. We pass here to the left and follow the path at the edge of the forest to the junction of a gravel path that leads us to the right to the viewpoint. A wonderful panoramic view over the city and surroundings rewards us for the effort of the ascent.
  • Treetop path "Skywalk Allgäu", at Scheidegg (about 20 km southwest).
