background
A border was drawn through the West Allgäu around 1806 in Napoleonic times, which divided the Allgäu, partly in front of Austria, which was partly ruled by knights, monasteries and imperial cities, and joined the kingdoms of Württemberg and Bavaria, where this region then lay on the edge of the dominant districts for several generations.
