Mohács - Mohács

Mohács [mohAĉ] is a town and naval clearing in southeastern Transdanubia in Hungary.

Mohács is located on a plain along the right bank of the Danube. Bóly is 14, Villány 23, Pécs 37, Budapest 170 kilometers (by air).

History

The first Hungarian mention of Mohács took place in 1093 and the village received the right of opidium in 1394. The Turks defeated the Hungarian army in 1526, which became the most important event of the thousand years. During the long Turkish era the town was the center of the region. In 1857 a private railway was built between the Pécs coal mines and the port of Mohács. The town acquired city rights in 1924.

Mohács is located in a temperate, continental climate, like full Hungary.
