The name of the island is made up of the Italian words Monte for mountain and Isola for island and is indicative of the fact that the island rises more than 400 meters above the surface of Lake Iseo. With a circumference of about 9 km, it is the largest island in Italian inland water. The church is located near the mountain top Santuario della Madonna della Ceriola. The main place and administrative seat is Siviano in the north of the island, the place is most strongly influenced by tourism Peschiera Maraglio, from here there is also the shortest ferry connection (approx. 2-3 minutes) to SulzanoIn addition to tourism, agriculture and the processing of agricultural products characterize the island, and there are also two shipyards for smaller boat builders.
A special feature of the island is the situation of road traffic, on the island the residents move almost exclusively with scooters or motorcycles, rarely also bicycles. Multi-lane vehicles are generally only found for commercial or public purposes. Due to the sometimes very narrow streets in the towns, a different regulation would not make sense, but due to the very mountainous character, bicycles are only suitable for everyday use to a limited extent. Tourists are not allowed on the island in cars or motorbikes, only bicycles are allowed. As a result of these regulations, parking garages for scooters and motorcycles can be found at the main ferry locations on the island.

By train
The most sensible journey by train is over Sulzanofrom where the ferries to Peschiera Maraglio leave. Sulzano is on the Iseo – Edolo railway line, and the Brescia – Breno Regio line and the Brescia – Edolo RegioExpress line operate.
In the street
Tourists are not allowed to drive on the island with motorized vehicles.
By boat
The most important (and shortest) Ferry connections (only pedestrians and bicycles) run between Sulzano and 1 Peschiera Maraglio as well as between 2 Carzano and Sale Marasino. The connection to Sulzano runs around the clock, every 15-20 minutes during the day. Practically all places on the lake shore as well as on the island shore are connected to each other via the general line of traffic on the lake.
There is a dock for a ferry between the coastal towns of Sulzano and Sala Marasino, which also transports vehicles, but it is reserved for islanders and suppliers.
mobility
There is a regular bus service on the island, which goes to practically all places with small buses. Since the locations are not always approached in the same order, the reads Timetable sometimes a bit difficult. A longer journey is always an experience that gives you a feel for the microcosm of this island! To reach the church on the top of the mountain, you have to go to Cure. On Sundays and in the high season there is also a shuttle service from Peschiera Maraglio.
