- Lombardy is a prosperous region with fertile soils and a mild climate. As in the Piedmont the Po Valley is an important location for heavy industry. The high mountains in the north that go into the Switzerland pass over, represent an excellent skiing and hiking area.
- The north of Lombardy protrudes into the catchment area of the Rhine. Consequently, the region is ideal for long-distance hiking on foot and by bike with the aim of the Alpine transits suitable. See also Rhine cycle route.

Milan has two airports with Malpensa and Linate. More information can be found on their joint Website. There are smaller airports in Brescia (Montichiari) and Bergamo (Orio al Serio; destination airport for low-cost airlines).

The region has a well-developed local transport network with regional trains, suburban trains and buses. The ticket prices for this are relatively cheap.
Tourist Attractions
- On the west side of the Lake Como lies the one holy mountainSacro Monte di Ossuccio. He was included in the list of 2003 World Heritage Listed by UNESCO, the chapels, built between 1635 and 1710, represent the mysteries of the Rosary. They stand on the slope that leads to the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Salvation.

Like any big city in the world, it also has Milan many excellent restaurants, wine bars and wine dealers (Enoteche), where you can get high quality wines from all over the world.

The most famous Lombard contributions to Italian cuisine are Minestra (a substantial vegetable soup) and Ossobuco alla Milanese (Milanese style veal knuckle).
To the west of Milan there are huge ones Rice fieldson which the Risotto Alla Milanese is grown. Lombardy is one of the largest rice-growing areas in Europe. The typical noble varieties are Arborio, Vialone and Carnaroli, ideal for a risotto.
The wineries of the Franciacorta (around Erbusco) produce many excellent Wines. The region has the controlled and guaranteed designation of origin DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) receive. Other significant wine-growing areas are Oltrepò Pavese (the area around Pavia on the south bank of the Po) and the lands around the Garda lake. The following grape varieties are mainly grown for wine production in Lombardy: Sassella, Grumello, Nebbiolo and Brugnuola for red wines and Trebbiano, Pinot Bianco and Chardonnay for white wines[1].
In the villages around the Lake Iseo you can get freshwater fish like agoni (sarde di lago), Chub, tench, white fish and perch. Typical fish dishes are fried fish from the lake and baked tench with polenta.
The specialty are dried sardines (agoni). After more than two days in salt, they are hung up to dry in the open air for a month.

Lying in the east Trentino-South Tyrol and Veneto, in the south the Emilia-Romagna and in the south and west Piedmont. To the north you can reach the Switzerland.
