Como is a city of Lombardy, capital of the province of the same name.

To know

Border town between Italy is Switzerland, Como is the "capital" of its lake, which has always attracted tourists from all over the world thanks to the natural scenery it offers. Tourism on the Lario is, in fact, one of the most profitable activities in the city and its surroundings and has experienced, in recent years, a certain growth thanks to some films and television series, such as Beautiful, Live is Star Wars, turn right on the lake, and upon the arrival of famous people, such as Anna Oxa, Madonna, Ivana Spagna, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Richard Branson, Gianni Versace and many others.

Geographical notes

Located at the southernmost end of the western branch of the Lario, Como is located in a small plain surrounded by some hills, including the Colle Baradello, Mount Goi, the Monte Caprino and the Monte Croce with the Cross of Sant’Eutichio, illuminated in the evening. The center of the Larian city is entirely built on this plain, around the Cosia stream, which, with the expansion of the city, has been filled in. The peripheral districts, on the other hand, are located at the foot of the aforementioned hills and on the hills themselves.

The historic center of the city, which still has the appearance of the original Roman city with the typical checkerboard layout, is surrounded by well-preserved medieval walls, around which the ring-road avenues have been built, the complex of which, together with the Lungolario Trento is Trieste is known among the Como people as the "girone" (Viale Cavallotti, Viale Varese, Viale Cattaneo, Viale Battisti, Viale Lecco).

When to go

Each season has its own charm. Spring, although a little rainy, leads to trips out of town, during which you can enjoy the extraordinary flowering of the gardens of the villas on the lake and other spectacular views. Summer, often hot and sultry, offers many outdoor events (film screenings, musical and theatrical performances, etc.). Autumn is a pleasant season from a climatic point of view and characterized by spectacular colors and late blooms. Winter is dry and not particularly cold; in December the city lights up with Christmas lights and comes alive with events.
